I turned the motor shaft down on the lathe, I saw this method in Harold Halls tool and cutter grinding wps book. The shaft was set close to centre height, trued up to the lathe axis and the tool brought to ch. The motor was then switched on and the shaft turned, taking small cuts so the motor didn't stall.
