Keyway Cutting

Created by DiogenesII on 20/02/2021 16:33:42

Needed to cut 4mm keyways in a pair of MS rollers. Have no broach, so slots were shaped by racking saddle with cutter held in toolpost. Cutter made from Ground Flat stock (Gauge Plate)- because this material is supplied soft, it may be shaped by milling or filing which gives better control of tool geometry than off-hand grinding of HSS, esp. in small sizes. I tend to use the minimum amount of front rake necessary, to avoid the tool being pulled into work.
