Extract and replace the headstock annular contact bearings. The lathe was purchased because it was in original condition with little measured or obvious use, however, the headstock rear nipple had been greased with what looked like Molyslip. The bearings were noisy when cleaned and oiled so replacement was in order. Otherwise, the lathe (1972 vintage) has had little use, not even any paint touched up!
